What a special treat to be able to design lighting for Franz Xaver Kroetz’s best known wordless drama Request Concert, or Wunschkonzert. And to be able to, on the same night, be in the presence of Lea Salonga and Dolly de Leon as they alternated the role of the middle-aged Overseas Foreign Worker (OFW) was doubly meaningful. It’s a timely moment for the play, and set in the Filipino context, asks us to take a second look at the ones amongst us that have really taken on the burden of caretaking at the expense of their own care.
